Sailing Adventures (S/V Pisces)

by John Wandling:

Pisces is my J28  sailboat.    We do a lot of local races in the Hampton Roads area and are always interested in adding new members to CapeHenryCup1our great crew.  Crewing on a racing sailboat is about the most fun you can have for a minimum investment.  You need non-marking shoes, sailing gloves, weather appropriate clothing, and a good attitude.   I  provide food and drink, but I usually accept offers of help with those.  Experience is nice but not necessary.  I will try to help you learn what you need to know, and schedule practice sessions so that you can learn without the pressure of competition.  But please be aware that crewing on a race boat is work, sometimes hard.  If you are thinking it is a nice way to take a boat ride you may be disappointed.

Pleased be advised that, while I intend to continue coaching,  I am downsizing my sailing business and will offer a limited number of captained day charters, and will no longer be available for long term charter, boat deliveries.  For charters along the US East Coast or Caribbean,  Captain Ed Darling is picking up that part of the business. Ed is an expert, seasoned captain with experience from small dingys to large monohulls and catamarans.  You can reach Ed via email at
