Sailing Adventures (S/V Rebecca J)

by John Wandling:

Rebecca J is my J27  sailboat.    We do a lot of local races in the Hampton Roads area and are always interested in adding new members to our great crew.  Crewing on a racing sailboat is about the most fun you can have for a minimum investment.  Click on the image for a cool video featuring Rebecca J.

You need non-marking shoes, sailing gloves, weather appropriate clothing, and a good attitude. On weekends,  I  provide food and drink, but I usually accept offers of help with those.  Experience is nice but not necessary. It would be very helpful  to have completed a basic keelboat sailing course taught by Hampton Yacht Club, or  a Sailboat Racing Crew Class taught by CCV Racing.  Or any basic keelboat sailing course taught by ASA or USSailing.  I will try to help you learn what you need to know, and schedule practice sessions so that you can learn without the pressure of competition.  But please be aware that crewing on a race boat is work, sometimes hard.  If you are thinking it is a nice way to take a boat ride you may be disappointed.
